Skipping rocks on the Hoh
I took this car selfie on Halloween — my favorite holiday — but this is more or less my year-round vibe.
I run the office D&D game. Ask me about my lore.
This is right before my daughter, Roo, pointed out a hawk to me for the first time.
We’re a baseball family; of course we keep score at Pickles games.
Pretty special moment for a kid from Nashville (home of a 1:1-scale model of the Parthenon) who’s lived in Portland (home of Acrop) for over a decade.
Lilly, Roo, Gus and I in one of the Ladd’s Addition rose gardens.
I’m Ricky. Proud husband of a union nurse, father of two toddling monsters, functional metalhead (black and doom, if you even care) and, likely most pertinent to you, senior-level copywriter.
Born in Nashville, I took to writing poems more naturally than songs — though I’ve written a few of those, too. I was raised by my sweet, single momma and the local DIY music scene. Weekdays were for schoolwork and helping with my little brother with special needs; weekends were for moshing.
After graduating from Vanderbilt, I did what any aspiring writer would do: continued working at a cocktail bar instead of pursuing a career that had anything to do with my degree. Seven years behind the stick taught me how to quickly yet patiently impart reciprocal enthusiasm and deep knowledge in as few words as possible, read: how to write copy.
In 2018, I finally left the bar world to pursue full-time work as a copywriter. This website (and its archived pages) track my progress as a writer, personally and professionally. Feel free to reach out through my Contact page to chat more about my practice and philosophy of writing and/or any opportunities to work together.
